Extreme Door Makeover: Lexington Edition

LLF Old Door SignOur partnership with Lexington Leadership Foundation (LLF) began with a video we produced with Amachi Central KY, one of their organization’s ministries. We then created Amachi’s website, and convinced LLF it was time for a strategic rebrand. Timing was everything. With COO Eric Geary restructuring the organization, a new graphic identity, brochure and style guide was essential. But a huge phase of the project for design lead, Jason Parmer, was replacing LLF’s door sign.

“After my first meeting with Eric, I knew this sign had to go. And I was going to be the one to make it happen,” remarked Jason Parmer. “I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.” So, Geary and Parmer agreed it would be the capstone of the launch of their rebrand. And Monday, October 8, 2007 marks the day Parmer got his wish.

Geary removes old sign “Could it be any hotter, and could my sleeves be any longer?” lamented Geary on the 95-degree day as the two muscled off the sign with a broken razor blade and scraper.

Geary at Hardware StoreWell, the old sign came off with minor struggles but left behind a nasty residue–6 years of glue. So, they ran to the hardware store where a helpful clerk suggested “Goo Gone.” It did the trick.

“Now this is what I call customer service,” joked Parmer, wiping the last of the Goo Gone from the window. Behold, the new LLF door sign:

“Next step,” says Parmer, “an extreme makeover of the LLF website.”

New Horizons Diving Site Launch

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the all new New Horizons Diving site!

Our predominant goal with New Horizons was to provide an easy-to-use interface to allow the Lexington-based dive shop to be able to update its calendar, class and trip schedule, and store information. Using a content management system, we enabled them to put these features to use.

“As a client of New Horizons myself, I saw how up-to-date information on trips and classes could go miles in adding new sales,” remarked Apparel’s Jason Parmer. The new site has already become a great resource for divers looking to continue their education.

Apparel Helps Say CasiNO

The hottest political topic in Kentucky this election season is unquestionably one word. “Casinos.” With both parties competing for votes almost entirely on this issue, it’s a hot one.

Lexington-based “Say No To Casinos” approached Apparel Studios in need of a video to kick off their speaker’s bureau to educate the community on the important issues and the implications for business, families and the community at large. Our solution, a 12-minute interview-style video interviewing prominent business people, faith leaders and chairs of family organizations.

Asbury Spots Go Live In Lexington

September premieres Asbury’s new TV and radio spot campaign, “Ranked. Respected. Real.” The spots play this month in Lexington on WLEX, WTVQ and others.

“The goal for these spots is to build a greater name recognition for Asbury in the Lexington area,” says Apparel’s Jason Parmer.

The radio spots specifically highlight Asbury’s world-renowned Media Communication program and its involvement with the Olympic Games, Los Angeles Film Studies Center, Highbridge Film Festival, and Walden Media, as well as its famed Equine involvement, including the building of a new indoor riding arena.

Apparel Studios Rocks Ichthus

Our challenge: market a Christian liberal arts college to more than 20,000 youth. Our concept: something different.

At last week’s Ichthus festival, thousands descended upon the little town of Wilmore for the area’s largest Christian music festival. In the backyard of our client Asbury College, we knew it was a perfect marketing opportunity for the school.

Our campaign began three years ago at the festival. Our goals were to increase positive name recognition, with a marketing campaign that stood out against seas of tattoos, bumper stickers, tees and commercials from other vendors. We knew to market to this generation effectively, they had to think it wasn’t marketing.

So we created a band, and in true “American Idol” fashion, we auditioned hundreds of attendees to “Be The One” (the name of our campaign) to fill the lead singer spot. The winner performed live on stage and won an iPod. Each audition was viewable online to increase traffic to their site, and contestants could virally distribute their videos as e-cards, etc. Because Asbury increased its inquiries significantly after the event, we built on its success in a second and now third year.

This year’s campaign brought in a record number of auditions and Admissions contacts, making it Asbury’s largest event campaign. To find out more about the campaign, check out the campaign’s site.

2007 Egyptian Event A Success!

Apparel spent the first week in June at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park, celebrating the Egyptian Arabian horse with some of our dearest friends. The 27th annual Egyptian Event featured projects by Apparel throughout the show, including a booklet-style brochure for Austin-based LD Arabians, the debut of Paradise Cay Arabians‘ new brochures and business cards, business cards and a brand new logo for Lansdowne Farm Arabians, and the largest project we tackled, the design and implementation of a 200 square foot booth for Paradise Cay and Paradise Arabians, Ltd. Charged with creating a homey atmosphere in a large, concrete covered arena, we transformed the space into a comfortable living room for newcomers and Paradise clients and friends. The 7-minute DVD we produced for Paradise earlier this year was the focal point of the room, playing on a large HD LCD screen throughout the week.

This was Apparel’s 3rd Egyptian Event, and we learn so much every year. This time around, we had the chance to cheer on many of our friends’ and clients’ horses as they showed off for the crowds. We are grateful to be a part of the Arabians LTD. and Paradise Arabians, Ltd. families, and we love creating beautiful materials to help them further their businesses with these captivatingly beautiful animals.
